The Valuation Exchange grew out of the Megaw & Hogg National Valuers business which in turn grew out of a long established group of businesses operated under the Megaw & Hogg banner in South Australia.

Megaw & Hogg was established in 1902 in Broken Hill as an auctioneering, land and insurance agency, and valuation business. It moved to Adelaide in 1912, where its Head Office remains today.

Valuations have been a key part of Megaw & Hogg's core business since inception, servicing both private and professional clients with valuations for all purposes, including deceased estates, divorce settlements, bankruptcies and liquidations, compulsory acquisitions, company and business sales, insurance claims and finance security.

In 1995 Megaw & Hogg began developing its volume residential property valuation business, designed to cater for high volumes and fast turnarounds using state-of-the-art computer and digital communications technology, to better service the mortgage lending industry.

Megaw & Hogg began its national expansion in 1998/99, based on client demand. Offices were opened in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast in 1999, and in Perth and Canberra in 2004.

This led to the separation of the property valuation business from Megaw & Hogg's other operations, including auctions and antiques, so that Megaw & Hogg National Valuers today is a separate legal entity under different ownership and management, with no remaining links to any other Megaw & Hogg entities.
